About Us
Crane & Lifting Services
Here at O'Hagan Crane Hire Ltd. we work to the terms and conditions of the CPA (Construction Plant Hire Association) and in accordance with BS7121 ("The Safe Use of Cranes").
We offer cranes for hire under CPA Contract Lifts or CPA Crane Hire, a description of each follows.
CPA Contract Lifts
Under the terms and conditions of a CPA Contract Lift, the crane, as well as any extra equipment provided, the operator and all personnel, (including the Appointed Person ⁄ Crane Supervisor) are the responsibility of ourselves, the crane owner.
We are also responsible for all aspects of the planning and execution of the lift and will provide insurance cover for the following:
- Loss of or damage to plant ⁄ equipment caused solely by our negligence in the performance of the lifting contract;
- Loss of or damage to third party property caused solely by our negligence in the performance of the lifting contract.
It is also important to note that a CPA Crane Hire agreement becomes a CPA Contract Lift only when we supply the Appointed Person ⁄ Crane Supervisor and therefore accept liability for planning and supervising the lift.
By specifying the correct type of lift this will undoubtably improve safety and ensure that the correct procedure of work is adopted.
Under Contract Lift conditions, the customer still has certain liabilities and should hold suitable insurance to provide protection against acccidents arising from, for example:
- the customers own negligence;
- inadequate ⁄ unstable ground conditions;
- inadequate ⁄ incorrect information supplied, regarding the goods being lifted.
This is typically the best option if you:
- do not have experience or knowledge of organising crane lifts;
- do not want the responsibility of planning & managing the lift;
- do not want to be liable for the insurance to cover contracted equipment, personnel or the goods being lifted.
O'Hagan Crane Hire Ltd. can take full responsibility for the lift by:
- Providing a Site Survey - Crane Plans & Risk Assessment;
- Providing a Certified & Experienced Appointed Person;
- Providing a Certified & Experienced Slinger ⁄ Signaller;
- Providing a Certified Crane & Crane Operator;
- Providing All Risk Insurance covering all aspects of the lift;
- Providing Method Statements.
CPA Crane Hire
Under the terms of CPA Crane Hire conditions. The Crane & Crane operator are hired by the customer and are under the customers instructions, who takes full responsibility for the operation once the crane leaves the public highway in order to access site. This includes travel on any access roads if the site is not immediately adjacent to the public highway.
The customer's Appointed Person is responsible for planning the lift and all the personnel and equipment involved. In addition, under CPA Crane Hire conditions, the customer must provide insurance cover for the following, whilst the operator and crane are under their supervision and control:
- loss of or damage to our plant and equipment whilst on site and under the customer's control;
- loss of or damage to the goods being lifted;
- continuing hiring charges whilst the equipment is unable to work as a result of loss or damage;
- legal liability - injury to the driver ⁄ operator ⁄ third parties, (including damage to their property), arising from crane operations.
For hire under CPA Crane Hire agreements, it is important to note the following:
- the customer's Appointed Person must have the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the lifting operation;
- the crane owner must supply a competent operator and crane, fit for the intended purpose.
BS7121 ("The Safe Use of Cranes"). gives a full description of such responsibilities.
In summary, under a CPA Crane Hire agreement, it is the customer's responsibility to fully plan, control, supervise and insure the crane, operation and personnel.
This is typically the best option if you:
- have experience of organising crane lifts;
- have qualified personnel who can plan and manage the lift;
- have insurance to cover all contract equipment and personnel and goods being lifted.
